Presenting our book for the month of December, Stella, Queen of the Snow by Marie-Louise Gay. A world-renowned author and illustrator of children’s books, her books have been translated into more than 15 languages and are loved by children all over the world. Marie-Louise lives in Montreal. Her book, Stella, Queen of Snow, is about a girl named Stella and her younger brother, Sam, exploring a familiar landscape transformed by heavy snowfall. It is Sam’s very first snowstorm, and he has lots of questions. Stella uses her creativity and ingenuity to answer all of them. Click on the photo for creative activities to complement your reading.

Presenting our book for the month for November, “A Poppy is to Remember” by Heather Patterson. A former elementary school teacher and children’s book editor, Heather is a fiercely proud Canadian. How did the bright red poppy that we all wear in November become Canada’s symbol of honoring those who fought for our freedom on Remembrance Day? This book tells our little ones all about it.

Presenting our book for the month of October, Sometimes I Feel Like a Fox by Danielle Daniel, a Métis author and illustrator who introduces readers to the significance of totem animals, part of the dynamic and diverse Anishinaabe culture.
This title won the Marilyn Baillie Picture Book Award and was shortlisted for the First Nation Communities Read Award for aboriginal literature.

September 30, 2021, is the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, honoring the lost Indigenous children and survivors of Canada’s residential school system and their families and communities. We believe books and stories are the best vehicles to initiate conversations around such topics with our children. Here we share a list of children’s books written by Indigenous authors.
